Timothy L. Sumter1LT Timothy L. Sumter was born in Columbia, SC to Mary Reid in March 1980. After graduating from Lower Richland High School in 1998, 1LT Sumter moved to New York where he attended The United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. While there he completed the Air Assault Course at Camp Smith, NY with 10th Mountain IN. 1LT Sumter earned a BS in Systems Engineering while also majoring in Psychology with a Law focus. Upon graduation as a part of West Point's Bicentennial Class of 2002, he was commissioned as a United States Army Officer. In February of 2003, 1LT Sumter graduated from the Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic Course and was assigned to B/5-5 ADA, 2nd Infantry Division, Republic of Korea as a Bradley Stinger Fighting Vehicle Platoon Leader. En route to Korea, 1LT Sumter attended and graduated from Air Borne School and the Infantry Mechanized Leader's Course at Fort Benning, Georgia. After eighteen months as a platoon leader, 1LT Sumter became the Executive Officer of Bravo Battery 5th Battalion 5th Air Defense Artillery Regiment in December 2004 while serving in Iraq.
1LT Sumter is a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., dedicated to service to the community, country, and uplifting all mankind.
1LT Sumter's mother Mary and brother Zackery (13) reside in Columbia, SC.
