C/44 EN Former Commander's Biography

Adam J. CzekanskiCPT Adam J. Czekanski is a native of Silver Creek, New York. After graduating from Cornell University with a degree in Environmental Systems Engineering, he was commissioned into the Army as an Engineer Officer in 1998.

He attended the Engineer Officer Basic Course and served in the 41st Engineer Battalion, supporting the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Fort Drum, New York from August 1999 - October 2002. While stationed at Fort Drum, he served as a Sapper Platoon Leader in A/41st EN and as an Equipment Platoon Leader in the 642nd Engineer Company (CSE). He also served as the Executive Officer for B/41st EN and later as the Assistant Division Engineer LNO. He deployed with Task Force Mountain to Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom from May - September 2002.

After completing his tour at Fort Drum, CPT Czekanski attended the Engineer Captains' Career Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri until June 2003, when he was assigned to the 44th Engineer Battalion at Camp Howze, Republic of Korea. Following a brief stint as the Battalion S4, he took command of C/44th EN in October 2003. He served as the senior engineer advisor to 1-506th IN, 1-503rd IN, and to 2-17th FA while in Korea and deployed with the 2nd BCT to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in August 2004. He and his Sappers have proudly served as the combat engineers of Task Force Currahee since their arrival to Camp Habbaniyah.

His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal and the Army Achievement Medal (w/ OLC). He has also been awarded the Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Ranger Tab and the Sapper Tab. He is engaged to CPT Wendi Lynn and has aspirations to one day own a fabled "five-yard loader".
