CSM's Letter to the Battalion
This past year has been very challenging. I want to personally thank every NCO for stepping up to the plate and leading your troops in a commendable manner. NCOs are truly the backbone of our Army, and you have proven day in and day out why this is the case. You have personified the NCO creed and shown why the US Army is the greatest fighting force in the world. Every Soldier has an NCO -- thank you for taking care of your Soldiers. To every Soldier, I want to say, "Job well done." Individuals don't win wars. Soldiers working together, fighting for the man on his left and right, are what win wars. Through the extreme heat of summer and the miserable cold of winter, you performed a thankless job. The Iraqi people may never personally understand your sacrifice or offer their appreciation, but know in your heart that your service made a difference. To the Officers, I salute you. It was my distinct honor to follow your example and serve under your leadership. You have experienced both the joys and burdens of leadership, all while maintaining the vision to see the fight through to the end. I have learned an immense amount from you, and my hope is that I imparted to you a small measure of what you imparted to me. Last, but certainly not least, to our Fallen Comrades. Though you are gone, your memory lives on in each our hearts. In the words of Henry V, "for he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother." We are a Band of Brothers, and your sacrifice was not in vain. As we depart Camp Habbaniyah and the sands of Iraq for Fort Carson, Colorado, remember who you are. You are and forever will be a Currahee! "Stands Alone." CSM Hideshi SasakiTask Force Command Sergeant Major |
