D/1-506 IN Commander's Letter to the Company
To the men of Destroyer Company, God Bless you all. You have all truly been my shoulder to lean on during these tough times. You relentlessly pursued the harder right amidst the angst and confusion of this unconventional battlefield. You showed no mercy to those seeking to do us and the Iraqi people harm. The money invested by the US Government in those missiles has been by far some of the best and well spent over here. All the while, you never failed to show compassion and provide care to those when it was due. I know there are many bittersweet memories that will forever ring through your hearts and minds, perhaps never drawing a clear picture or solution. Nonetheless, the greatest use in this life is to spend it on something that will outlast one's self. I commend you all for committing yourself, time, efforts, families, and total well-being to a cause bigger than yourself. These actions speak volumes of a man's character, heart, and ethic and will forever reflect on you -- the American Soldier -- demanding nothing short of the utmost respect. I would be sorely mistaken to even consider that I have been alone throughout all of these trials. Without the mentorship, friendship, and combined effort from 1SG White and all of the NCOs, none of these accomplishments would have ever been possible. You have always been there when I needed you for the company or just for myself. These men hold you up high on a pedestal, understanding the daunting responsibilities that lie on your shoulders, as do I. I respect and appreciate your efforts and sacrifices as much as any man in this company. To all of the lieutenants, you are the workhorses putting the rubber to the road in this unprecedented conflict. You have all remained extremely flexible, brave, and vigilant through a multitude of missions and taskings. Those of you who chose to leave the Army after this tour of duty have proven yourselves, and served with pride throughout your time. You have nothing to be ashamed of, but you will never find the satisfaction that comes from working with soldiers like the men of Destroyer Company. To those no longer with us, you are not forgotten. The men of Destroyer Company appreciate all your efforts and dedication to the undying cause of freedom to those who cannot defend themselves. SFC Todd Gibbs and SSG Kyle Eggers, you have touched us all and you will always remain a part of each one of us wherever our paths may lead. Finally, I would like to thank all of those families for enduring this arduous and unprecedented deployment. Your commitment and support did not go unnoticed and not a day goes by that every soldier needs someone back home in support. Currahee! CPT Jason SabatCompany Commander |
