D/1-506 IN Mission Summary

Destroyer Company started the deployment from Korea in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the first Currahees into a combat zone since Vietnam. The lead elements of the battalion were Destroyer's, escorting the majority of the Brigade combat power into the Al Anbar province across Camp Ramadi, Habbaniya, and Al Taqqadum.

Destroyer Company immediately assumed control of and security for MSR Michigan, a main thoroughfare between Ar Ramadi and Al Fallujah. The elements from Destroyer Company aided by Apache Tank and other platoons across the battalion formed the security team for Operation Mad Max. Operation Mad Max spanned the fourteen kilometer stretch of MSR Michigan through the Currahee battle space. This arena became one of the most challenging and complex urban environments faced throughout the battle space. With immeasurable courage and tenacity, the men of Destroyer Company and other elements across task force took the fight to the enemy.

Destroyer Company was selected in late December to move from Camp Habbaniya to Camp Ramadi in order to bring the unique capabilities of improved target acquisition system to MSR Mobile. In less than two weeks fighting with Task Force Manchu along MSR Mobile, the men of Destroyer Company exploited a prepped Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device and destroyed two dismounted insurgents seeking to do harm towards Coalition Forces and the Iraqi people. Destroyer Company executed several raids detaining multiple insurgents throughout the Manchu battlespace.

In late June, CPT Sabat changed out command of the company with CPT Bednar who continued leading the men of Destroyer Company against the enemy.
