Commender's Comments (Dec 04)

I greet you warmly from Habbaniyah, Iraq where the temperature has cooled off quite a bit. Despite the low temperatures, our operational tempo remains high, and we are making a difference in the lives of the Iraqi people. As the Iraqi national elections near, we are that much more aware of the impact our mission has in bringing democracy to this region. So many of the freedoms that we take for granted back home are not present in this land. Each day that we walk the streets and knock on doors, we are reminded of the liberties and comforts that we have that many in Iraq can't even begin to fathom. As you pray for the soldiers, please include in your prayers the Iraqi people that we are here to help.

The Holiday Season is upon us, and we have received "tons" of mail and packages loaded with Christmas cheer. Everyone is sure to gain a few extra pounds with the aid of the cakes and cookies that flow in abundance. Your love and generosity is felt across the miles and is greatly appreciated. These little touches of home are a boost to the morale of all the Soldiers, many of whom are spending their first Christmas away from home and deployed in a foreign land.

As always, we are reminded of those who have gone before us and paved the way for the success that we are experiencing. We are also mindful of our own brothers who have given the ultimate sacrifice in support of a much greater cause. We covet your prayers for our continued safety and success, and greatly appreciate your support as we answer our nation's call.

From the Currahees, we pray that you have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. In all your activities and celebrations, remember the true Reason for the season. "Stands Alone!"
