The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia Former Wartime Service or better known as the "combat patch" is authorized by the Secretary of the Army to distinguish those who have served in Army units in support of combat operations. The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia Former Wartime Service represents the unit that the soldier served with in a department of the Army recognized combat theater. The Combat Infantryman Badge, or CIB, is the infantryman's most prestigious award. The CIB was officially authorized by executive order on 15 November 1943 by General George C. Marshall, the US Army's Chief of Staff, to recognize the hardships endured by the Infantryman on the battlefield and to signify their importance as the Army's premier combat arm. Originally established as the Medical Badge, the Combat Medical Badge (CMB) was created by the War Department on 1 March 1945. Its evolution stemmed from a requirement to recognize medical aidmen who shared the same hazards and hardships of ground combat on a daily basis with the Infantry Soldier. Since inception, the intent of the Department of the Army regarding this requirement has been that medical personnel must be personally present and under fire in order to be eligible for the awarding of the badge. Also recognized at the patch, CMB and CIB ceremony were SPC Kim and SPC Bowman who received the Army Achievement Medal for their service in Korea as members of HHC. 2LT Jared McGee was promoted to 1LT. He has been leading the medical platoon for about 16 months now and continues to prove himself an asset to the Battalion daily. In addition, due to the high percentage of CIB's amongst the men of HHC, the company is authorized the Combat Infantry Streamer. It will be proudly displayed when we arrive in Fort Carson. Speaking of redeployment, as the Battalion nears the halfway mark, talk has already started about when we will be home. There is no date posted as of yet but the planning for coming home has already begun. Keep your fingers crossed that it will be sooner rather than later. As proud as the men of HHC, 1-506 IN are to defend their country, they are ready to reunite with their loved one back in the states. |
