Commander's Comments (Feb 05)
Much has happened in the past month. At the end of January, the Task Force provided security for the first ever national democratic elections in Iraq by securing 2 polling sites. This was truly a momentous occasion. One of the greatest events on Election Day was observing the first voter at one of our polling sites. An elderly lady of 70 years walked alone to the polling center and marked history as the first female voter in the Al-Anbar province. Her actions resounded deep in our hearts and only served to clarify our mission. And so our resolve remains strong to fulfill our mission to assist the Iraqi people in establishing a free and democratic nation. Please read the company letters for more insight into the elections. As we commemorated the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and our President's Washington and Lincoln, we were reminded that the freedom from oppression and tyranny is carried on the shoulders of those who dare to rise above fear and take a stand for liberty. We are honored to stand in our nation's service so that others across the world can experience the liberty we enjoy in America. The end of February brings an Iraqi battalion to Camp Habbaniyah. This battalion, the 9th Battalion of the 2nd Brigade, Iraqi Intervention Force, served bravely in the fight for Fallujah and we are proud to now serve with them here. We will train and fight together as a team as we strive to rid Iraq of insurgents and to make this a better place. Thank you again for your love and support to the soldiers of TF 1-506th. Continue to offer prayers on our behalf as we do for you. "Stands Alone!" COL David L. ClarkBattalion Commander |
