Hellcat Newsletter (Mar 05)

Well, one more month down in this adventure that is Operation Iraqi Freedom. We are officially over the "hump" and on our way to the day that we come home. I think I speak for all when I say, "it's about time." Now of course, things could change... but we all like to not think about that. As for HHC, the days bring still much more of the same. (Think Groundhog Day) The Scouts are still scouting, the Mortar Platoon is still supervising the improvement of East Camp. The Cooks... well I'm sure you can figure out what they're doing. The Mechanics are as busy as can be repairing all of the broken vehicles and the Medics are busy keeping everyone healthy and bandaged up so that the Battalion is able to accomplish the various missions that come our way. Support platoon is keeping everything rolling by running convoys and making sure we have fuel and ammunition and of course the "S" shops are handling all of the administrative needs we have... which are quite numerous.

The biggest changes to our camp and standards of living are the future additions of an Arabic restaurant, which will be run by local nationals, and an improved internet system that will allow many soldiers to have internet access in their rooms. Of course this internet service is not free, but it's a very small price to pay for personalized internet service. The Commo shop is working very long hours getting this set up for us by wiring the entire camp and putting together all of the equipment.

Other than that, there are not too many new things happening around here. We're doing all we can to keep this area safe for both coalition forces and the local populace. Sometimes it really seems like people are starting to see the light and they are beginning to hunger for freedom and safety. We'll see, so ask again in six months.

So with that said, we, the Soldiers of HHC/1-506 Infantry (AASLT), until next month, bid you a fond adieu.
