Apache Newsletter (Jun 05)
1st Platoon The Reapers were dealt a blow by the insurgents as Reaper 4, led by platoon sergeant SSG(P) Kishbaugh, was conducting a routine patrol of sector. As with all things in war, nothing is routine and an RPG was fired by an insurgent. PFC Williams and SSG(P) Kishbaugh were wounded by shrapnel from the RPG that was shot at their tank. They are now in Germany and are expected to make full recoveries. Our prayers are with them and we look forward to seeing them at Fort Carson. Reaper 4G, SGT Romesha took over the tank in SSG(P) Kishbaugh's absence. About a week and a half after SSG(P) Kishbaugh was hit, PFC MacGranahan absorbed a sniper's round in his body armor. Praise God for body armor, as the only injury sustained by PFC Mac was a bruised back. We look to get Mac back in action in a couple days. The Reapers have not lost heart. They continue to pound the highway we patrol with their usual and unique first platoon humor. 2nd Platoon 2LT Klemcke began his time as a platoon leader with a bang, literally. He was introduced to MSR Michigan through the smoke of several main gun rounds, a fitting welcome to the company's newest leader, especially to second platoon. The reflagged "Warlord" platoon served with distinction while attached to our Bushwhacker brothers to keep the peace. 1LT James Allen, or forever known as "White 1" has just been discharged from Walter Reed and should be on his way to Fort Carson to join up with SGT Tschida who should soon be joining him from at Fort Carson from Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. These two warriors earned their Purple Hearts in May. 3rd Platoon The insurgents continue to run in fear of the mighty Titans of third platoon. Third platoon had its last member fly home for R&R before the company claims its new home at Fort Carson. The Titans also celebrated two birthdays and two anniversaries this month. 1LT Stewart turned 25 on the 17th. SPC Christian turned 22 on the 18th. SGT(P) Nelson will celebrate his 7th wedding anniversary on the 12th and 1LT Stewart celebrated his 1st wedding anniversary on the 14th. Congratulations go out to our heroes. This last month 1LT Stewart was wounded by a sniper's bullet. Although injured, 1LT Stewart returned to the company to continue to serve throughout the rest of the tour. At the time of his injury, our prayers went out to him, his parents, and his wife, Rachel. Maintenance Apache Wrench's tradition of hard work (and probably a little bit of voodoo) to keep the company rolling was especially strong this past month, ensuring the company could make a vigorous effort through all the activity. Medics SGT Kassa, SPC Miguel, and SPC Redden continue their exemplary service to the company. From treating stubbed toes to gunshot wounds, Apache Band-Aid has been one of the vital components to bringing the team through the year. With little time remaining in country, the company will make a strong finish, completing their mission. We look with pride over all that we have accomplished and to all that we still have to do. We think of the States every day and eagerly anticipate our return. 1LT Adam CannonCompany XO |
