Commander's Comments (Jun 05)
Let me begin with a sincere and wholehearted "Thank You" for your unwavering support to the Soldiers of Task Force 1-506 during the past 11 months. Being deployed is always a very trying time for both Soldiers and families. Not only did you endure the hardship of the deployment to Iraq, but also the extended separation because of our deployed status in Korea. Through it all, you stood by your Soldier, offering encouragement and prayers for our safety and for our safe return home. Your steadfastness bolstered the spirits of every member of the Task Force, giving them the drive and determination to continue the mission. I've said it before, but it bears reiterating, you are truly the unsung heroes of this war. Our mission in Iraq remains challenging. However, our resolve is unchanged to assist the Iraqi people in becoming a free, democratic, self-governing state. We have made great strides to realizing this goal. As I write, Camp Habbaniyah is transforming so that it can become the headquarters of an Iraqi Army Division. Our Soldiers, Sailors and Marines have spent countless hours training Iraqi soldiers in the fundamentals of war-fighting in order to equip them to protect and defend their freedom. We have served alongside our Iraqi brothers in combat, fighting an insurgency that threatens the peace and stability of their country. It hasn't been easy, but there is no greater satisfaction than to know that our nation called, and we answered – faithfully and energetically doing what is required to protect our liberties and our way of life, and to spread the hope of these same liberties to others. Finally, I would be remiss if I didn't take a moment to remember our fallen comrades. These men are your sons and brothers, nephews and uncles, husbands and dads. They gave their lives defending the freedoms and ideals that make America great, freedoms to which you and I have grown accustomed. Though they are physically gone, their memory lives on with each of us. Their sacrifice as well as yours will never be forgotten. Thank you again. May God's blessings overtake you and your entire household. COL David L. ClarkBattalion Commander |
