Greetings from Camp Habbaniyah, Iraq!

This past month I had the privilege of taking command of Headquarters and Headquarters Company. Since that time we have been working nonstop in support of battalion operations in and around Camp Habbaniyah. We have also been organizing our property and preparing for our eagerly anticipated deployment to Ft. Carson, Colorado.

Congratulations are in order for the following NCOs and soldiers who have been recognized for their hard work by receiving promotions in the past month:

  • SSG Eric J. Bailey
  • SSG Robert C. Potter
  • SPC Johnny Bates
  • SPC Jorge Cornejo
  • SPC Luis Herrera
  • SPC Salvador O. Mercado
  • SPC Daniel K. Park
  • SPC Peregrin J. Ramirez
  • SPC Donhenry L. Tanchan
  • SPC Eduardo P. Villa IV

Also, HHC led the way with 14 reenlistments last month as the 1-506th IN continues to exceed its reenlistment goals.

I would like to thank all of the wives and families of our deployed soldiers for the tremendous support they have displayed during the sudden deployment from South Korea to Iraq. Our soldiers have done a fabulous job with the challenging circumstances of refocusing their mindsets from defending the most heavily militarized border in the world to fighting an asymmetric battle against insurgents in Iraq. The task of deploying from South Korea to a war zone and then to the United States is unprecedented. The nature of the 1 year hardship tour to South Korea ensures that every soldier has his/her unique situation making these movements all the more complicated. Please understand that the needs of the army and necessary professional development of our soldiers may cause uncomfortable circumstances for certain individuals. The 2BCT chain of command and I are very aware that the school year is rapidly approaching and it is our goal to have everyone PCS'd in time for the beginning of school. I can assure you that HHC and 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment are working hard to ensure that all soldiers are properly cared for, with minimal disruption to their families.

The light at the end of the tunnel is growing brighter! However, we are continuing our mission here with the same focus and intensity as when we first arrived to ensure the safe return of all our soldiers back to the United States. I know that I speak for the company when I say that we are looking forward to seeing all of you when we arrive at Ft. Carson!
