506th Association President's Letter to the Battalion

As your deployment to Iraq and participation in Operation Iraqi Freedom nears an end, the Directors, Officers, and Membership of the 506th Airborne Infantry Regiment Association (Airmobile - Air Assault) want to thank you for continuing the proud legacy of the Regiment. Once again Currahees have accomplished their assigned missions.

We observed that you took the fight to the insurgents immediately upon your arrival at Camp Habbaniyah, Al Anbar Province -- in the heart of the Sunni Triangle. Your efforts paved the way for elections to be held in Iraq and ensured the prospect of freedom for the Iraqi people after over 50 years of oppression.

For many of you, the upcoming redeployment to Fort Carson, Colorado marks the end of a 2-year separation from family and loved ones. In addition, it will also result in the Colors of the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry (Air Assault) returning to the states after 18 years with 17 of those years stationed as the most northern US Army unit in Korea.

While this return will lead to many of you moving on to other assignments or units in the Army, you can always say proudly that you are a Currahee, a statement that only a proud few in the Army are able to make.

In closing, I ask that you remember your Association's Motto: We Stand Together - Then, Now, and Always. Also, consider joining the Association; you earned your membership the hard way.

Currahee! (Airborne - Airmobile - Air Assault)
