Missions of Task Force 506th
Arrival in TheaterTransfer of Authority, 7 Sep 2004 Upon Transfer of Authority, Task Force 1-506th conducts movement to contact to defeat Anti-Iraqi Forces (AIF) in Area of Operations CURRAHEE to gain freedom of action for increased development of Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) and enhanced control by local Interim Iraqi Government (IIG). Operation Phantom FuryFallujah Campaign, 7 Oct - 30 Nov 2004 TF 1-506 attacks insurgents in AO CURRAHEE from 7 October to 15 November to disrupt AIF command and control in order to prevent coordinated, complimentary, responses to the 1st Marine Division assault on Fallujah and deny AIF refuge in the greater Khalidiyah-Ramadi area. Operation Place of HopeDec 2004 - Jan 2005 On order, Task Force 506th seizes designated "Place of Hope" (Civil Camp) within AO CURRAHEE in order to establish a stable environment that enables IIG local control. On order, Task Force 506th secures "Place of Hope" in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of locally elected leaders and newly integrated ISF and foster an environment of safe, prosperous, and functional municipal / commercial activities for other tribes / neighborhoods to emulate. Operation CitadelIraqi Election Security, 2 Jan - 1 Feb 2005 No later than 27 January, 1-506th neutralizes insurgents in AO CURRAHEE in order to prevent coordinated enemy actions during the Iraqi national elections. On order, secure designated voting areas in order to allow unimpeded elections. Operations River Blitz & River BridgeMARDIV Transfer of Authority, 20 Feb - 22 Mar 2005 TF 1-506th develops the 3/2/1 Iraqi Intervention Forces (IIF) Battalion and conducts movement to contact to disrupt the insurgency in AO CURRAHEE to enable effective ISF operations in support of the Iraqi Transitional Government (ITG). Operation Guardian Sword2MARDIV Campaign Plan, 22 Mar - 25 Jul 2005 TF 1-506th in partnership with 3/2/1 IIF Battalion, conducts combined counter-insurgency operations in AO CURRAHEE, from 6 JUN-28 JUL 05 to disrupt the insurgency and assist the Brigade Main Effort to neutralize the insurgency in order to prevent AIF interference with 2/2 ID RIP/TOA and shape the ITG constitutional process. |
