The Sink Grail

The Sink Grail is named in honor of COL Robert F. Sink, the first Commander of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, and its only Commander throughout the Second World War. The Grail was fashioned from various artifacts liberated by the Currahees when they overran and captured Hitler's famed Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden in April 1945:

  • The cup itself was made by melting down liberated silver flatware and goblets from Herr Hitler's private dining room.
  • The wooden base is taken from the leg of Hitler's private dining table in the Eagle's Nest.
  • The handles are each from one of the T-7 reserve parachutes that the Regiment jumped into Normandy and Holland.
  • The airborne wings affixed to the front of the Grail are COL Sink's original jump wings.

The Sink Grail was donated to the Currahees from the 101st Museum on 6 August 1987
