In April 1971, SGT Ken Parr and SGT Ray Sowinski erected a small monument in front
of the A Company, 1-506th Orderly Room at Camp Evans to honor the men from Alpha
Company who were listed in the "Morning Reports" as having died in Vietnam during the pre-
vious 14 months. A complete list of A/1-506th Currahees killed in Vietnam can be found in the
Memorials section of this web site.

The building of this monument is chronicled in an article by Alfred M. May (XO, A Co, 1st BN,
1970-1971). The 7" x 14" piece of brass was engraved with a dedication statement. Eighteen
1" x 3" brass pieces were engraved with the Rank, Name, and Date of Death for each soldier.

A replica of this monument was dedicated at Fort Campbell, KY on May 20, 2007.


Where is the metal work from this monument?

David McMinn, a rifleman from the field who became the Alpha Company Clerk because he was able to
type, relates that in December 1971, the metal work was stripped off the monument and put in zippered
bags (similar to bank deposit bags).

David carried these bags to Da Nang and turned them over to officials, who told David that they would be
shipped to the 1-506th BN S-4 at Fort Campbell, KY.

Please contact Hoyt Bruce Moore, III if you saw this metal work at Fort Campbell after the 506th returned
from Vietnam or can provide any information as to where it is now or otherwise what happened to it.
