5/11/08 FIRST CURRAHEES KILLED IN ACTION IN AFGANISTAN

It is with sadness we report the first four Currahees Killed In Action in Afganistan. You can view the names via the Memorial page and select the Afganistan button and then the 2008-2009 deployment hyperlink.

5/3/08 SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION COMMITTEE TO MEET

The application period for the 2008 506th Association College Scholarship is now over. The Scholarship Committee will meet in May and the two winners of our $500 Scholarships will be announced in June. Winners will be notified by regular US Mail before their names are made public. 4/12/08 Medal of Honor Awarded
A Navy Seal attached to the 506th Regimental Combat Team, who threw himself on top of a hand grenade in Iraq to save his comrades was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. The Medal of Honor was awarded to Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael A. Monsoor. His family received the medal during a ceremony April 8th at the White House.

Monsoor was part of a sniper security team in Ramadi on September 29, 2006, with three other SEALs and eight Iraqi soldiers when an insurgent fighter threw the grenade which struck Monsoor in the chest before falling in front of him. Monsoor then threw himself on the grenade.

11/9/07 2008 Currahee Reunion Announcement

The 506th Association will be holding its 2008 Currahee Reunion at the Circus Circus Hotel and Casino in Reno, NV August 13 – 16, 2008. All 506th Currahee veterans, active duty soldiers of the Regiment and their friends and families are invited to attend.
