BAGHDAD, Iraq, September 24, 2006 - Iraqi Army and Multi-National Division - Baghdad soldiers detained 21 suspected terrorists in separate incidents Saturday around Baghdad. At approximately 9:50 a.m. soldiers from 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, stopped eight vehicles attempting to speed through a checkpoint south of Baghdad. While searching the vehicles, the soldiers seized illegal weapons and took 13 suspected terrorists into custody. At approximately 12:43 p.m. soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 4th Brigade, 8th Iraqi Army Division, were attacked by terrorists 30 kilometers south of Baghdad. The terrorists killed an Iraqi soldier after firing on the IA forces with rocket-propelled grenades and machine-gun fire. The soldiers fought off their attackers and detained eight suspected terrorists. |
