Camp Bonifas is the base camp for the United
Nations Command Security Force --
Joint Security Area (JSA). It is located 400 metres south of
the southern boundary of
the Demilitarized Zone, and is home to the soldiers who support
the Military Armistice
Commission at the JSA, the United Nations Command Security Group.
Initially, A Company, 1st Battalion, 506th was located
at Camp Liberty Bell, but
that camp was made a part of Camp Bonifas. Later, A Company

The remainder of the 1st Battalion (HHC, B, C, and D Companies)
of the 506th was
stationed at Camp Greaves, across Freedom Bridge, about
2 miles from the Korean
Demilitarized Zone.
The 506th soldiers stationed at Camp Giant and Camp Greaves
were authorized
Hardship Duty Pay of $150 per month as of 01 January 2001.
Hardship Duty
Pay was authorized for troops who are assigned to areas where
living conditions are
substantially below US standards. |
