Military Demarcation Line

The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is a four kilometer buffer zone
between South Korea and North Korea. Running down the
middle of this buffer zone is the Military Demarcation Line,
the actual border line.

This border line is supposed to be marked by small yellow
signs every 100 meters
or so; however, only the US and
South Korea maintained these signs and were often harassed
when doing so by North Korean troops. Consequently, both
sides stopped maintaining them, leaving few standing, making
it difficult to know which side of the border you were on!
