Camp Greaves
Republic of Korea
June 2004

This is Page 3 of a 4-page series of photographs taken in June 2004 by Alfred M. May (1st Platoon Leader and XO, A Co, 1st BN, 1970-1971) and his wife Sabina, when they traveled to the Republic of Korea to visit their son, 1LT David May (2nd Platoon Leader, B Company, 1st Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment, 17th Aviation Brigade).

While Fred and Sabina were in South Korea, they visited the two camps where the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry (Air Assault) were currently stationed: Camp Giant and Camp Greaves.

Alpha Company was the only company stationed at Camp Giant, and the A Company CO was also the Camp Commander. The remainder of the 1st Battalion (HHC, B, C, and D Companies) of the 506th was stationed at Camp Greaves, across Freedom Bridge, about 2 miles from the Demilitarized Zone in South Korea. Both Camp Greaves and Camp Giant were originally scheduled to be shut down in 2011, but the closures could now be much sooner.

The entire 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry (Air Assault) was on leave in June 2004. When they returned in July, the Air Assault Currahees began training as a motorized infantry battalion to prepare for deployment to Iraq as part of the 2nd Infantry Division, 2nd Brigade Combat Team.
