Team Spirit '93 was the 17th Team Spirit exercise. The first Team Spirit was conducted in 1976.

Team Spirit exercises were designed to test the ability to reinforce, re-equip, and
resupply US and South Korean forces in the event of an attack from the North.

On March 8, 1993, Kim Jong Il, Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army,
ordered all the units of the North Korean military forces and the entire nation to a semi-
war state in reaction to Team Spirit '93.
