The 506th Regimental Combat Team in Iraq
November 2005-November 2006


Until June 2006, the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry [Task Force Red Currahee (a collection of infantry, armor and Navy SEAL units)] was attached to the 2nd Brigade, 28th Infantry Division (Pennsylvania National Guard), which in turn was attached to the 2nd Marine Division stationed at FOB Corregidor in Ar Ramadi, Al Anbar Province. (No information is available about FOB Corregidor in the on-line Iraq Facilities list.)

Attached to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry, December 2005-June 2006:
  A Company, 3rd Battalion, 103rd Armor, 55th Brigade (Pennsylvania National Guard)
  2nd Platoon, C Company, 876th Engineers (Pennsylvania National Guard)
Attached to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry, June 2006-November 2006:
  C Company, 2nd Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division
  2nd Platoon, A Company, 40th Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade (formerly in 2nd Brigade),1st Armored Division
  C “Commando” Company, 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 1st Armored Division

NOTE that the 1st Battalion of the 506th was the first Regiment/Battalion to serve back-to-back deployments in Iraq, and to do so as a member of a different division for each deployment: first in the 2nd Infantry Division and then in the 101st Airborne Division.

The 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry was attached to the 4th Brigade, 4th Infantry Division stationed in Baghdad at Camp Falcon, where C "Comanches" Company, 1st BN, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 4th Infantry Division was attached to the 2-506th.

Meanwhile, 1st Platoon, A Company, 2nd BN, 506th RCT and the entire C Company, 2nd BN, 506th RCT were attached to the remainder of the 1st BN, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Camp Prosperity as the Quick Reaction Force (QRF) for Task Force Cobra, 4th BCT, 4th Infantry Division.

The remainder of the 506th RCT was attached to the 4th Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Multi-National Division-Baghdad, but under the Operational Control of COL Thomas D. Vail (CO, 506th RCT), and attached to him was the 3rd Battalion, 67th Armored Regiment, 4th Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, which was stationed at Camp Rustamiyah, along with the 801st BSB and the 1-61st Cavalry. The 506th Regimental Headquarters, the 4th BSTB, and 4-320th FA were located at FOB Loyalty. In August 2006, the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry, 2nd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division was attached to HHC, 506th RCT and stationed at Camp Rustamiyah and FOB Loyalty.
