LTC John P. Arntz


LTC John P. Arntz, a native of Aberdeen, South Dakota, attended South Dakota State College, graduating in 1941. He immediately joined the 6th Infantry where he served until 1946, at which time he was a battalion commander. During this period, he served in Hawaii, New Guinea, the Philippines and Korea. Since WWII he has served in various stateside and overseas assignments, including Germany, the Far East and Washington, D.C.

Colonel Arntz is a graduate of the Strategic Intelligence School, the Advanced Armor School and the Command and General Staff College. Completing Jump School and Jumpmaster School at Fort Benning in 1957, he arrived at Fort Campbell in 1959. He first served as Deputy Commander of the 502nd ABG and later that year he assumed command of the Command and Control Battalion. Prior to his assignment to the 506th, in October 1960, he served as Division G-3 for the 101st Airborne Division.
