Memorial Service

All of Alpha Company gathered in the 1-506th Mess Hall at
Camp Evans for the memorial service for A/1-506th KIAs.

8 KIAs

From Ron Rami (A/HHC, 1st BN, 1970):
'The memorial service was held at approximately 7:00 pm after the 8 were killed earlier that
morning. (If I remember about 1:00-2:00 am) The company was brought in to reform the
platoons. The company arrived at Camp Evans about 3:00 in the afternoon and we went
out again before 8:00 the next morning. It was about a 16 hour stand-down. The Chaplain
was available, and we had the services in the mess hall as it was raining very hard. After the
service, we went back to the Company area and you could hear a pin drop all night. The
mood was very somber. We had the Brigade Colonel speak to us at about 7:00 am the
next morning, and he told us we were participating in pacification! When he finished, we
“rucked-up” and went to Currahee pad, and the Company went back into the field. We
were brought in again one day shortly after “Chief” (Henshaw) was KIA. The same scenario
- in late in the afternoon and back out the next morning. This time they had steaks and beer
for us, and we whooped it up! This was the only time we were at Evans from March 11-
May 23 when I was WIA."

NOTE: according to the NARA on-line Vietnam KIA database, there were eight
1-506th Currahees KIA on 03/10/70.
Six were from 3rd Platoon, Alpha Company,
and two were killed in action other than the A Company fight. Those two were from
Charlie Company.
