March 20-April 9, 1971


On March 20, 1971, the 2nd Battalion, 506th TOC at FSB Jack was closed out and moved north to FSB Khe Gio, where it remained till April 9, 1971, while the 2nd Battalion participated in Operation Lam Son 719. Khe Gio Bridge
SSG Jay Wetherby on FSB Khe Gio overlooking the vital Khe Gio Bridge on Highway 9,
near the DMZ. Only a year earlier, on March 12, 1970, US Army troops from the 1/44th Field
Artillery were overrun by North Vietnamese troops at this Bridge.

COL David E. Grange, Jr.

(L): COL David E. Grange, Jr. (CO, 3rd Bde, 101st Division) and unknown staff members

COL Grange, who assumed command of the 3rd Brigade on December 22, 1970, had
previously served as Commander of the 2nd Battalion, 506th, 1967-1968. Grange
later retired from the Army as a Lieutenant General.
