Belgian Fourragére Award

Ceremony where the Belgian Government awarded the 101st Airborne Division the Belgian Fourragére, cited in the Order of the Day of the Belgian Army for action in France and Belgium. The Belgian Fourragére could be awarded by the Belgian Government if a unit was cited twice in the Order of the Day; however, award of the Fourragére was not automatic and required a specific decree of the Belgian Government.

After WWII ended, the 101st Airborne Division returned to France, preparing to return home and parade down 5th Avenue in New York City. The 506th PIR was posted in an area around the small town of Joigny.

The Division wanted to select an Honor Company and held a competition among all its rifle companies. G Company (commanded by CPT Derwood Cann), 3-506th PIR won the competition and was designated the 101st Airborne Division Honor Company.
